Nov. 15: Blue Note Club Sessions presents Kapok – Eindhoven close

REGION | November 15, 2014 | test | By Nightlife Nearby

LONDON – Saturday 15th November, the young, Kapok quirky jazz trio on stage at Club Blue Note Sessions in City Foyer Eindhoven. Kapok, formed around a horn player Morris Cliff House, one of the most prominent bands in the contemporary jazz scene in the Netherlands and harvest in the press merely rave reviews.

Kapok is a young, unusual trio. The band combines elements from different genres and traditions: the stage energy and compact forms of pop and funk grooves and percussion from roots music, interaction and abstract sound combinations from the free improvisation, phrasing and harmonies of jazz.

Also, the instrumentation is unusual; a bass instrument is missing, the drum unit is itself composed and melody instrument is the horn, with its classical tradition.

Using these very different means Kapok makes music that simultaneously everywhere and nowhere seems, and that the carpet again and again pulls out from under the feet of the listener. Music controlled, energetic and can be compact, so suddenly to talk to improvisational freedom and abstraction.

Their eponymous album (Buzz / Challenge Records) which was released in February 2014, garnered rave reviews.
