November 15: Blue Note Club Sessions presents Kapok – eindhoven close

REGION | November 15, 2014 | test | By Going Near

LONDON – Saturday 15th November, the young, Kapok quirky jazz trio on stage at Club Blue Note Sessions in City Foyer Eindhoven. Kapok, formed around hornist Morris Cliff House, is among the most prominent bands in contemporary jazz scene in the Netherlands in the press and merely gets rave reviews.

Kapok is a young, unusual trio. The band combines elements from different genres and traditions: the stage energy and compact forms of pop and funk grooves and percussion from roots music, interaction and abstract sound combinations from the free improvisation of jazz

The instrumentation is unusual; a bass instrument is missing, the drum kit is composed itself and the melody instrument is the horn, with its classical tradition.

Using these very different means Kapok makes music that simultaneously everywhere and nowhere similar, and that the rug from under the feet always attracts the listener. Music that controlled, energetic and compact, to suddenly to save to improvisational freedom and abstraction.

Their eponymous CD (Buzz / Challenge Records) which was released in February 2014, garnered rave reviews.
