Galaxy Note 7 exploded from the sheer thinness – The Engineer

The battery of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was tightly locked up, and that caused the fire to fly and explode, according to two researchers.

The space in which the battery of the smartphone was stored, had no margin. Therefore, the battery is not off, what he normally use to do. Two hardware engineers, Anna Shedletsky and Samuel Weiss of the website Instrumental.ai, after their own research to that conclusion.

Samsung has still inconclusive about the cause of the problems with the battery. The Galaxy Note 7 was this fall recalled and taken out of production because different instances exploded and fire flew (Samsung stops Galaxy Note 7').

most of The messages about the accident with the Note 7 establish connection with the extreme thinness of the model. Thinness is a feature that a smartphone prestige. The thinner the battery, the closer, for example, the electrodes on each other to be caught or the thinner the insulating layer between them. Both increase the chances of short circuit. Additionally, if the energy of the battery in a small space is compressed, the energy density is high, what the consequences of a short circuit becomes more severe.

The two researchers who now have their own findings to publish, draw attention to another phenomenon: the physical swelling of a battery in its housing. This should be 10 % of the thickness of the battery as a margin to be taken. That would be in the case of the battery of the Note 7, which is 5.2 mm, so 0.5 mm have. The two engineers were, however, no margin. An ‘aggressive design’ they call it.

The inability to swell the pressure in the battery have increased, with short-circuiting as a result. Where that did not happen, would, later, other problems might have occurred: “We believe that the equipment is over a few years slowly from each other were printed by the swelling of the battery.’ The two suspect that Samsung for that reason has decided to destroy the whole production, instead of replacing the batteries.(Herbert Blankesteijn)
