Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (GT-N7100)

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2, despite being a year old, is still a very powerful device with an excellent screen and camera. Consequently, the phone sold in droves and I’m sure many readers will be using one. Whilst Samsung has made some great hardware, occasionally Their TouchWiz skin atop Android or can leave you wanting, and if you’ve fancied a change towards a more stock Android experience then this is the guide for you.

As I’m sure you’re aware, CyanogenMod is one of the biggest names is custom ROMs, with a huge team That support an insane number of devices, bring the latest stock Android with some brilliant tweaks to handsets and tablets That might otherwise have been left in the dust.

This guide is for installing CyanogenMod 10.2, which is the latest version of CM based on Android 4.3. These are nightly builds However, and Because Of thatthere’s a certain element of risk Involved. I’m not responsible for you bricking your phones, losing any data or voiding your warranty. Battery life can be shaky, calls can drop, all sorts of functions can break on a day-to-day basis and occasionally the phone just will not boot after installing the latest: you have been warned

.

Before you start, you’ll have to be rooted and must make a Nandroid backup incase you want to get back to whatever you’re running at the moment. It’s a good idea to have a read through the official CM wiki before you get downloading anything.

First, you’ll need to flash the latest version of ClockworkMod Recovery, Which is a tool for flashing ROMs and so on to your device, as well as making and restoring backups. If you’re reading this, I’m sure you know what it does and likely have it installed anyway.

Next, you’ll have to copy the gapps (very important if you want to use Google Play services and so on) and CM10.2 zips to your sdcard.

Boot into recovery, Which is normally done by holding power and volume down. Once in recovery, flash CM10.2 and gapps in that order. Next you’ll want to do a factory reset / data wipe -. This step is very important otherwise you’ll just end up stuck at the boot screen

Once this is done, reboot the phone and voila. The very latest, cutting-edge version of CyanogenMod will be installed and you can bask in the godaddy, stock Android-ish goodness.

It’s worth noting That the developers behind CM do not recommend restoring Apps and data via Titanium Backup Because it can cause some problems, so it’s a good idea to reinstall your apps manually.

And that’s it. Enjoy CM, it’s an excellent ROM and the base for the majority of other custom ROMs too.
