Samsung Galaxy Note provides 4 “anti-bug update Stage Fright ‘- GSM Helpdesk Netherlands

Samsung currently provides all Dutch (but also international) Samsung Galaxy Note 4 units of a software update that Dangerous Stage Fright leak-proof. Through this vulnerability it is possible to take any given Android smartphone remotely

The update voro the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is 82.73 MB. Samsung gives himself only a brief description on the update through a general text that the update might include. Tests have however shown that after performing this update, the first Stage Fright bug is fixed.



One of the most dangerous bugs so far,

Stage Fright bug is one of the most dangerous vulnerabilities that are discovered to date in the Android operating system. The Stage Fright framework in Android devices is responsible for playing videos on Android devices. Hackers seem to be able to hide in a video malware running unnoticed when the video opens on a smartphone. Through this malware hackers would be able to take full control of a smartphone to see what someone does and all data stored to steal on the smartphone.

Because misuse can the bug through videos be, it is possible for hackers to literally hack every Android smartphone remotely. Hackers only need to send an infected video to a smartphone to hack the device. This could be done via MMS, so that hackers actually only have the mobile number of a smartphone to learn to attack the targeted unit. For that reason, several providers also temporarily receiving video MMS messages off.



Stage Fright 2.0

The updated Samsung spite, but there last week discovered a new critical vulnerability in the framework of Stage Fright Android. This vulnerability is now also called “Stage Fright 2.0.

It turns out, according still be possible to access custom MP3 or MP4 files on Android smartphones that install malware silently in the background. These infected MP3 or MP4 files on a smartphone to be smuggled through contaminated messaging apps or through a so-called “man in the middle” attack. In addition, Wi-Fi traffic between a smartphone and an unsecured Wi-Fi network is intercepted and modified (infected) data sent to the smartphone.

The software update from Samsung for the Galaxy Note 4 does protect against the Stage Fright 1.0 bug, but still not at the Stage Fright 2.0 bug, according to tests of GSM Helpdesk.
