99 percent of malware targeting Android - Portable Gear

According to research from Kaspersky Lab is 99 percent of all new mobile viruses and malware targeting Android. In 2012, the Android malware for the second year in a row, have grown explosively.

May 23, 2013 – According to research from Kaspersky appeared in January 2011 only eight new viruses for Android: the average number of new Android malware ran in the same year, however, with 800 (!) new variants per month. In 2012, Kaspersky Lab discovered every month 6,300 new variants of Android malware. In total, the number of known Android viruses in 2012, more than eight times.

Kaspersky divides the Android malware into three groups, namely “SMS Trojans” (which automatically send text messages to premium rate numbers), “Backdoors” (which is broken on your phone to steal personal data or to install viruses ) and spyware (which include personal data, such as addresses and passwords stolen). These three types of malware in total 51 percent of all newly discovered Android malware. SMS Trojans are the most widely distributed, followed by applications that display unsolicited advertisements.

Android malware is mainly derived from plants via unreliable websites. Since 2011 and 2012 is also the official Google Play Store (formerly Android Market) provoked by malware, despite Google’s efforts to combat it.
